Abstract

The main challenge to the sector is closely associated with the latest data released by the UN, which estimates that by 2050, the world population will increase between two and three billion (from seven to 10 billion). According to FAO, this demographic factor - alongside the increase in the economic power of underdeveloped countries - will double the demand for food and, consequently, agricultural productivity, due to the decline in terms of availability of arable land.
